Paices Wood support from BBOWT

The official transfer of the management of Countryside Assets from West Berkshire Council to the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust, took place on January 6th 2014. This includes the management for Paices Wood.

Paices Wood Country Parkland remains privately owned by Young Estates & Land Ltd, but BBOWT will create a management plan for our site, which will include monitoring, visitor and species surveys and will assist in gaining funding for future projects, including open days and various events.

“I truly believe that we have a fantastic facility here, with the woodlands, the fishing lakes, and beautiful walks. But it’s amazing how many people still don’t know we are here, hidden behind the industrial estate, so events like the open days are a great opportunity to raise awareness, but they take a lot of organising. BBOWT have the resources and the contacts to make these happen” said Roy Young. “So we are really looking forward to working with BBOWT in the near future and believe that Paices Wood and the local community will really benefit from this new arrangement”.

To mark the transfer of nine reserves and commons from West Berkshire Council to BBOWT, an event was held in November at the Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre, to bring together everyone who helped make the transfer a possibility. We are looking forward to working with BBOWT at Paices Wood in the future.

The image was taken at the event with Rob Young, Trina Young and Simon Young, representing Youngs, just right of centre next to our local MP Richard Benyon.
